Antique VC Shilling KAR 88 Cavalry Carbine. Produced in 1890, this in another really cool antique Mauser. Serial number 6840. From what we see, this is nearly number matching with exception of the barrel band with sling loop, which is marked 47 (everything else is stamped 40 or 6840).
With exception of the sling, the rifle appears to be all original and number matching. The sling a reproduction of high quality, and it's the correct model for this rifle.
The 19" barrel has a bright bore with strong rifling but is a bit frosty looking. Mechanically everything appears to be in great working order.
The stock is in great working order and has a proof mark in front of the rear sight groove. It appears as if someone modified the sling mounting area to work with a non-original sling. This is not visible with the reproduction sling installed.
This is an antique and not subject to federal FFL rules. Please know you state and local ordinances before ordering.

The German Karabiner 1888 was the first smokeless powder carbine issued by the German Empire, but would survive until the end of the First World War. The Mauser KAR 88 Cavalry Carbine is essentially a Mannlicher-style firearm, featuring a spoon bolt and a clip loading system. This particular example has a chamber date of 1890 and was made by VC Schilling in Suhl.
