Now available! PM-63 Barrel in .380ACP with nitride finish.
Salt Bath Nitride finishing (or Melonite or QPQ as it's called) is an EXTREMELY hard, corrosion resistant coating used on barrels to provide long life, for corrosion resistance, and to enhance accuracy over other processes. Unlike chrome lined barrels, nitride barrels exhibit barrel lives running upwards of 10,000 rounds. Due to the nature of the chrome lining process, the chrome layer is deposited in uneven thickness down the bore of the barrel; this causes many of the accuracy issues that many Com-block guns are known for. By using a nitride process, the barrel surface actually becomes hardened and there is no change dimensionally to the bore and chamber, enhancing accuracy over a chrome lined barrel. Nitriding also has been shown to exhibit advantages over chrome lining as far as corrosion resistance is concerned.
