Midwest Industries has announced the release of its M-LOK Handguard for the FN-M249 belt-fed platform, bringing modern modular accessory mounting to one of the most recognized squad automatic weapons in service. Engineered as a true dropin upgrade, the new handguard requires zero permanent modifications to the host firearm and installs in the field with the included hardware and tools.
Constructed from 6061 hard coat anodized aluminum with blackened stainless steel screws for corrosion resistance, the M-LOK Handguard for FN-M249 features 29 full M-LOK slots and 2 half slots distributed around its faceted body. The faceted bottom profile delivers an ergonomic feel in the hand, while the open architecture provides direct mounting points for lights, lasers, vertical grips, and other M-LOK-compatible accessories.
Operational compatibility was a primary design objective. The handguard does not interfere with barrel changes, allows the carry handle to fold flat, and clears the bipod when folded and locked. It is also fully compatible with M122 and M192 tripods and pintle mounts — preserving the M249’s field-mount capability while modernizing its accessory interface. A Midwest Industries aluminum M-LOK rail section is included for immediate optic or accessory mounting.
“The M249 has been in continuous service for over four decades, and operators have long wanted a way to run modern optics, lights, and lasers on it without modifying the host weapon,” said Troy Storch, Owner of Midwest Industries. “Our M-LOK handguard gives them exactly that — a precision-machined, field-installable platform that respects the firearm and the way it’s deployed.”
The MI Handguard for FN-M249 (MI-M249) carries an MSRP of $349.95 and is proudly made in the USA, backed by a Midwest Industries Lifetime Warranty.
